Published on 07/31/2019

A dog is a man’s furriest and friendliest best friend. With over hundreds of dog breeds and even more mutts and mixed-breeds, how do you choose which doggie in the window will become your new best pal? Especially since every dog has their own unique personality. If you’re unsure what we’re talking about don’t even fret – the internet has millions of online videos of dogs doing super silly things. Dog lover or not, here are a couple of fun facts you probably didn’t know about these lovable companions.

Dog’s Have A Keener Sense Of Smell Than Humans.

Let’s break this down to statistics: the human nose has about 5 million scent receptors and a dog’s nose has around 225 million scent receptors. Now we’re no mathematician, but based off these numbers it’s clear that a dog has (a lot) more scent receptors. To simplify things even more, the average dog’s sense of smell is 100,000 times better/stronger than us humans. Again no math expert, but that’s a lot of zero’s.

Dogs Are Not Colorblind.

Contrary to popular belief, dogs are in fact not colorblind, not even in the slightest bit. Dogs can actually see a vast variety of different colors. And unlike our three primary colors, the primary color spectrum for dogs consists of yellow, violet, blue, black, white, and gray. Who knew?

Dog’s Dream Just Like Us.

That cute, very funny, priceless moment when you see a dog running in their sleep, is you witnessing a dog dreaming. Yes folks, dogs dream just like us humans do – and not this is not a theory. In fact, researchers believe that a dog’s dream and their everyday activities/habits is very much correlated. So playing fetch, chasing squirrels, going on walks, sniffing other dogs, okay you get the gist. Moral of the story: 1) don’t be freaked out if you see a sleeping dog twitch and 2) the more active your pup is, the more pleasant their dreams will be.
